چکیده

Plasma diagnostics were carried out in a theta-pinch device to investigate the applicability for plasma– material interaction under fusion-like conditions. A series of triple probe diagnostics show that the plasma is sustained for approximately 80 ls at each pulse, with 3.0 (10) m 3 plasma density and up to 40 eV electron temperature when a 32 lF main capacitor is discharged at 20 kV. In order to increase plasma density and temperature, an RF antenna is installed near one end of a Pyrex tube and a 50 lF preionization capacitor is connected to an electrode placed at the same end as the antenna. In this configuration, several time delays between the main and preionization capacitors are tested. When the preionization capacitor was triggered 45 ls before the main bank discharge, it resulted in high energetic plasma being obtained with a few density spikes at 10 m 3 and electron temperature around 100 eV. Double Langmuir probe measurement of plasma parameters in a dc glow discharge

In this paper, plasma main characteristics such as electron mean temperature, electron number density, and oscillation frequency have been measured experimentally using the double Langmuir probe diagnostic system. In our experiment, the plasma was generated by applying the low pressure dc glow discharge in several common gases. The experimental results indicated the highest plasma density and o...

Beat Wave Development Work

The first phase of experiments on beat wave acceleration have been completed at UCLA. Here we examined the suitability of a theta pinch as a plasma source. The beatwave was excited to amplitudes providing GeV/m-scale accelerating fields. However, trapped magnetic fields within the theta-pinch plasma hindered the injection of test particles. Optical diagnostics were developed to measure the acce...

Development of Simple Designs of Multitip Probe Diagnostic Systems for RF Plasma Characterization

Multitip probes are very useful diagnostics for analyzing and controlling the physical phenomena occurring in low temperature discharge plasmas. However, DC biased probes often fail to perform well in processing plasmas. The objective of the work was to deduce simple designs of DC biased multitip probes for parametric study of radio frequency plasmas. For this purpose, symmetric double probe, a...

Argon and Xenon Pulsed Theta-Pinch Plasma via Optical Emission Spectroscopy

Analyses of argon and xenon spectral emission data in the IR range and estimation of electron temperatures are performed on a theta pinch test article. Estimations are based on the intensity ratio technique using collisional-radiative models. Tests performed on a pulsed xenon plasma at an energy of 80 joules, neutral back-fill pressures of 10−2 to 10−1 Torr, and vacuum discharge frequency of 46...
